Outbound Student Exchange
Eligibility
You are eligible to apply if you are
-
A full-time undergraduate student in government-funded programmes at CityUHK.

Attained at least 2.5 CGPA in your recent semester before application.

Fulfill one of the below minimum English language requirements unless you are seeking entry to a programme conducted in Chinese at a host institution in Mainland China:
IELTS overall band score of 6.5; or TOEFL (iBT) score of 79; or Grade C in one of the University English courses approved by the Senate for fulfilling the University English requirement; or Level 4 in HKDSE English Language; or Any other equivalent qualifications accepted by the University as proof of English language proficiency
Students need to make sure their English language results are valid throughout the entire application process*. Failure to do so may result in withdrawing Student Exchange Programme offer and funding. (* IELTS and TOEFL results are valid for two years only from the test taken date.)
In addition to the above, exchange students must also satisfy the language requirements, if any, set by the host institution. -

Completed at least one year of study with major declared before you apply while Advanced Standing students must have completed at least one year of study at CityUHK before participating in an exchange programme. (Subject to approval by College/School/Department)

- Available to students from different Colleges and Schools
- Wide range of course offerings within institutional-level host institutions
- College/School-level
- Available only to students from a specific College/School
- Course offerings are specific to the College/School’s discipline

- Available only to students from a specific Department
- Course offerings are specific to the Department’s discipline
How to Apply
Students must be nominated by their College or School in order to be considered for the Student Exchange Programme. Students who wish to apply should:

Check the Institutional-level programme choices and the College/School/Departmental-level programme choices & requirements on College/School/Department’s webpages.

Identify up to 8 exchange programmes at the Institutional-level, College/School-level and Departmental-level (max. 4 Institutional-level programmes) that fit in with their study plan and interests.

Consult their academic advisor or exchange coordinator on the suitability of their proposed exchange study plans and how to proceed.

Complete the Outbound Student Exchange Application on AIMS (under "Student Services") during the application period.

Financial Support
Student Exchange Funding (SEF) and Special Fund for Non-Local Outbound Exchange Students (SF) do not require an application. More funding resources are available here.

Offer Issuance
Selection Criteria for Institutional-level Student Exchange Programmes
Exchange students are selected on academic merit and overall suitability. The weighting of the assessment criteria (subject to change) is as follows:

* Students who can provide a valid IELTS or TOEFL result may have advantages in the selection process.
** The application statement submitted as part of the application may be used for assessment when necessary.
No new offer will be issued to students who have already accepted an offer for the same exchange period in the previous round.
Offer Acceptance
Selected students will receive an exchange offer from CityUHK. The offer is conditional, meaning CityUHK will nominate the student to the host institution, but it does not guarantee acceptance by the host institution. The student will receive further instructions from CityUHK to submit another application directly to the host institution. The student is responsible for completing all application procedures and fulfilling all requirements of the host institution. The official confirmation of the exchange is subject to acceptance by the host institution and final approval of CityUHK. CityUHK reserves the right to withdraw the offer if a student fails to fulfill any requirements set by the University and/or the host institution.
Students are required to settle caution money of HKD1,000 when accepting the exchange offer from the University. Refund of caution money will be arranged when a student has completed the exchange programme to the satisfaction of the University and has submitted all required documents to testify to satisfactory programme completion. Should a student fail to complete the exchange programme in full satisfaction or withdraw from programme after accepting the offer, whether before or after departure, the caution money will be forfeited. Caution money may be refunded within one year from the beginning of the exchange term, except for year-long exchange students, who will be given four more months for the claim. Any unclaimed caution money will be forfeited one year after. No retrospective request for a refund shall be considered.
