On 21 May 2025, the Hong Kong Subsidized Secondary Schools Council (HKSSSC) held its General Meeting and Thematic Seminar at Joseph Lee Hall, City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK). The event, centered on the theme "Innovative Learning Environments," drew approximately 80 principals and vice principals from secondary schools across Hong Kong.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Professor Chan Chi Hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement) of CityUHK, who highlighted CityUHK’s commitment to transforming education through learning-centric approach. “Our classrooms are no longer just about teaching; they’re about inspirational, interactive, and innovative learning to equip students with a global perspective and problem-solving skills to thrive in a rapidly changing world,” said Prof Chan.

He further emphasized the value of university-secondary school collaboration. “Through initiatives like Principals Luncheon, Teachers Development Day and CityUHK Experiential Camp, we aim to build stronger ties with local schools to foster exchange with principals and teachers and prepare students for the future.”

During the thematic seminar session, Professor Tsui Lik Hang, Associate Director of Talent and Education Development Office and Associate Professor of Department of Chinese and History of CityUHK, shared the integration of digital humanities in education, illustrating how CityUHK employs innovative technologies to create interactive learning experiences that bridge traditional subjects with modern tools. In addition to Professor Tsui’s sharing, HKSSSC also invited a principal from Mainland China and a professor from Finland to provide global perspective and share the experience from the education systems of different regions.

CityUHK also took the opportunity to showcase information about its Flagship Programmes, allowing principals to explore a series of distinctive programmes which cover various professions, offer scholarships, exchange opportunities, and internships at top-ranked global universities to broaden students’ horizons and global perspectives.

In appreciation of CityUHK’s support, Ms Lee Yi Ying, Principal of Kowloon True Light College and Chairperson of HKSSSC, presented a souvenir to Professor Chan.

The event not only delivered valuable insights but also reinforced the network of educators dedicated to shaping the future of education in Hong Kong. It underscored the importance of collaboration between universities and secondary schools to foster innovative learning environments.
