Research is an important part of academic life. One of our strengths is in comparative law, in particular, between Hong Kong and Chinese law.

The increasing economic and cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and the Mainland have underlined the importance of improving mutual understanding. To achieve that, there is a need for more and better comparative research in Chinese Law, Common Law and the laws of other jurisdictions, especially those in the Asia-Pacific region. Hong Kong provides a natural centre for such research.

CityUHK School of Law’s faculty has pursued research in a number of areas of current concern, including:

• Chinese and comparative law
• Chinese constitutional law and Hong Kong Basic Law
• Cross-border legal issues between Hong Kong and the Mainland
• Chinese foreign investment and trade law
• International and comparative environmental law
• Comparative law theory and practice
• Socio-legal studies and economic analysis of law
• International law and international trade law
• Arbitration and alternative dispute resolution

During the past years, the Law School has successfully held a number of international conferences, hosted renowned scholars from the Mainland and other countries, and carried out several important research projects in cooperation with colleagues from other departments and other institutions. The internationally refereed Asia Pacific Law Review, based in CityUHK School of Law, is one of the premier legal publications in Asia providing scholarly writing of interest to both academics and practitioners in a variety of law-related disciplines. It is the first Asia-based law journal to be indexed in the highly regarded Social Sciences Citation Index.
