Centre for Judicial Education and Research


To further strengthen the collaboration with the Supreme People’s Court of China and the National Judges College of the Supreme People’s Court of China in relation to the Chinese Judges programmes which are currently under the auspices of School of Law, the University established the Centre for Judicial Education and Research cum Identification of Hong Kong Law in September 2013. The Centre will, inter alia, institutionalize the Chinese judges programmes and further develop them in the context of globalization.

Mission

The Centre for Judicial Education and Research cum Identification of Hong Kong Law (JERI) oversees the management and strategic development of the Chinese judges programmes, currently run by the School. The Centre works closely with the School and assumes responsibility for the assessment of candidates for the judges programmes; organization of the series of events including inauguration and graduation of the judges programmes; promotion of the judges programmes; and entering into agreements with international institutions relating to the judges programmes; assisting mainland Chinese courts in the Greater Bay Areas in identification and application of Hong Kong law; and conducting international legal talents training programmes. Besides consolidating the existing judges programmes and furthering its development, the Centre also aims at enhancing the research element and developing a research trajectory on judicial reform in China.

  • Judicial practice and reform in China
  • Comparison of different judicial and legal systems
  • Judicial and alternative dispute resolution
