Research Interests
Richard Khaw SC obtained LLB and PCLL from the City University of Hong Kong in 1992 and 1993 respectively. Thereafter, having been awarded the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowship for Overseas Studies, Mr Khaw studied LLM at the University of Cambridge and completed the course in 1994.
Mr Khaw was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1993 and was appointed as Senior Counsel in 2016. He was appointed as Deputy Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court for various periods from 2018 to 2021. He has been appointed as Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court since 2021. He also passed and completed the 2021 Greater Bay Area Legal Qualification Examination and Training.
He is currently Chairman of the Administrative Appeals Board, Vice-Chairman of the Management Committee of the Consumer Legal Action Fund of the Consumer Council, Co-Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Mainland Affairs, member of the Standing Committee on Legal Education and Training, the PCLL Academic Board of both the University of Hong Kong and the City University of Hong Kong. He is also a member of the Board of Governors and the Council of Hong Kong Shue Yan University.
Mr Khaw’s practice is predominantly civil and commercial litigation which includes disputes on commercial agreements and shareholders’ disputes. He also actively participates in international arbitration (including cases in Mainland China, Hong Kong, London and Singapore) and is regularly appointed as arbitrator.
