Professor Alex Jen Received the First Green Tech Fund

A research project led by Professor Alex Jen, Lee Shau Kee Chair Professor of Materials Science, entitled “Development of Printable Perovskite Solar Cells for Transformative Clean Energy and Sustainable Society”, has been selected as one of the first eight approved projects (out of more than 190 applications) of the Green Tech Fund (GTF).

With the funding of over HK$5 million, in three years Prof. Jen’s team targets to develop low-cost, printable perovskite solar cells that help scale up the renewable energy in an urban environment, and that improve the energy efficiency performance of small-scale grid-connected PV systems installed on rooftops of residential buildings. The success of this project will provide universal access to efficient, scalable, and environmentally friendly energy production.

The HK$200-million Green Tech Fund was setup by the HKSAR Government in 2020 to provide funding support for research and development projects which can help Hong Kong decarbonise and enhance environmental protection. All applications are assessed by the GTF Assessment Committee which is chaired by the Director of Environmental Protection and comprises members from academia, industry and green groups. More details are available on the GTF website (www.gtf.gov.hk).
