As new media technologies, such as social media and artificial intelligence (AI) bots, have been widely used, scholarly attention is given to its potential impacts on the society. On one hand, AI technologies can contribute to informing citizens and cultivating civic engagement. On the other hand, the technologies may be employed to disseminate misinformation and make socio-economic inequality worsen. This project attempts to figure out key factors of such impacts and suggest practical solutions to mitigate socially undesirable effects.
