Entrance Requirements for HKDSE Students

For admission to Bachelor’s degree programme (JS1106), applicants must meet the general entrance requirements. The levels/grades indicated below are the minimum acceptable but possession of the qualifications in no way guarantees acceptance.

  • Level 3 or above in Chinese Language and English Language; and
  • Level 2 or above in Mathematics; and
  • "Attained" Level in Citizenship and Social Development; and
  • Level 3 or above in any two elective subjects*

* Remarks:

  1. If students take both M1 and M2, they are counted as one subject only.
  2. Applied Learning subjects are not counted as elective subjects.
  3. Unspecified elective subjects may include "other languages" at grade E or above.

Assessment of JUPAS (HKDSE) Applications

For applicants who have fulfilled the Minimum Entrance Requirements, admission scores will be calculated for the selection of applicants. Presented below are the subjects and weightings to be used for the calculation of the admission score (with weighting applied) for consideration.

Weighted Admission Score for Main Consideration
Admission Code Department No. of subjects Subject Weighting
Chi Eng Maths Electives
(including M1/M2)
JS1106 Media and Communication (Majors: BA Digital Television and Broadcasting / BA Media and Communication) Best Four Subjects
(Include English)
1.25 1.25 1 1
Remarks:
  1. Elective Subjects:
    • Mathematics extended modules (M1/M2) and “other languages” (at grade E or above) can be used to meet the elective requirement. If students take both M1 and M2, they are counted as one subject only.
    • Applied Learning subjects are not counted as elective subjects.
  2. Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students:
    Applicants who have (i) learned Chinese Language for less than 6 years while receiving primary and secondary education or (ii) learned Chinese Language for 6 years or more in schools but have been taught an adapted and simpler Chinese Language curriculum not normally applicable to the majority of students in local schools, can use the following qualifications to replace HKDSE Chinese Language level 3 to meet the entrance requirement for Chinese Language:
    • HKDSE Applied Learning Chinese “Attained” or above
    • GCEAL/AS Chinese grade E or above
    • GCSE/IGCSE Chinese grade C or above
    "HKDSE other languages" cannot normally be used to meet the entrance requirement for Chinese Language. While waivers may be granted at the discretion of individual colleges/schools/departments, such considerations are only made under special circumstances on a case-by-case basis. Students are thus strongly advised to obtain the requisite Chinese qualifications.

Other Considerations

HKDSE applicants who meet the entrance requirements will initially be prioritized based on their admission score for consideration. For applicants with the same score, the Department will consider other information to determine their order in the priority list, such as:

  • Band Choice (Preference may be given to students with higher band choices.);
  • Interview Score (May require interview);
  • Other Experiences and Achievements (OEA); and
  • Principal Rating on Applicant's Personal and General Abilities.
