CityU applied research results displayed at China Hi-Tech Fair

Researchers from City University of Hong Kong are taking the opportunity this week to showcase a number of its hi-tech technologies and products at the annual China Hi-Tech Fair (CHTF) from 12 to 17 October at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre.

 

“The China Hi-Tech Fair is recognized as the most influential and prominent technology fair in China,” said Mr H Y Wong, Director of the Technology Transfer Office (TTO). He said the invitation to display the University’s applied research strengths and results at the Fair was a significant opportunity.

 

“It helps promote the image of the University and facilitates technology transfer to companies in China and rest of the world,” he said.

 

More than 25 projects have been exhibited at the CityU booth at the Fair, including research from the Department of Computer Science, Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering Management, Division of Building Science and  TechnologyDepartment of  Physics and Materials Science, Department of Electronic Engineering, and Department of Biology and Chemistry.

 

Such exposure could only enhance CityU’s reputation for high-quality research in the hi-tech field, Mr Wong said. “It's time for our mature technologies to go beyond the border, and I believe participation in the fair can help us penetrate a larger market in long run,” he said.

 

During the Fair, the CityU booth has been run by TTO staff. Research assistants attached to the various projects involved have been on hand to demonstrate the various technologies and products.

 

Last year 350,000 visitors, a mix of business people, students and the general public, attended the Fair. CityU first took part in 2003.

 

The Fair is approved by the State Council and jointly hosted by China’s Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Information Industry, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Education, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government. It is co-hosted by China’s Ministry of Agriculture and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
