Examining the notion of belonging in Hong Kong and Poland at CityU
Organised in cooperation with the ?AZNIA Centre for Contemporary Art and the City of Gdańsk, Poland, the School of Creative Media (SCM) at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) presents “From Longing to Belonging”, an exhibition featuring photography, painting and mixed-media artworks created by six Hong Kong and Polish artists. The exhibition runs from 3 to 27 November 2016 in the Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre (CMC) Gallery.
Created by Ying Kwok and Jolanta Woszczenko, “From Longing to Belonging” is an ongoing exchange project between Hong Kong and Gdańsk, Poland. The first part of the exhibition took place in the ?AZNIA Centre for Contemporary Art in Gdańsk in 2014. The exhibition explores the sense of belonging in Hong Kong and Gdańsk, with a rich historical and political background, straddling a national and emotional state of mind, and finds a narrative through various artists' works. It provides an opportunity for us to understand the complexity of the state of mind through the artists’ stories and to become more aware of what's happening around us.
The Hong Kong exhibition brings together six emerging and established artists of international renown, including Leung Chi Wo, Associate Professor in CityU’s SCM, Tang Kwok Hin, Tse Yim On, Honorata Martin, Agata Nowosielska and Micha? Szlaga.
A preview will be held on 2 November, from 6pm to 8pm in the CMC Gallery.
A screening and talk will be held on 3 November, from 7pm to 8:30pm at Para Site, 22/F, Wing Wah Industrial Building, 677 King’s Road, Quarry Bay. The screening and talk is open to the public and entry is free.
“From Longing to Belonging” will be open from 12:00pm to 8:00pm, from 3-27 November (Monday–Sunday) with free admission at the CMC Gallery, 18 Tat Hong Avenue, Kowloon Tong. All are welcome.
