A HK$3 million donation from the Hong Kong Hua-Yan Buddhist Association (HKHY) will be used to set up an endowment fund for student scholarships at City University of Hong Kong (CityU).

Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, thanked HKHY and its Founder and Chairman, Venerable Ti Lun, for the continuous support during a ceremony at CityU on 19 August. President Kuo remarked that this is the second time that CityU has received a generous donation from HKHY since 2017. The establishment of scholarship is definitely an encouragement to both CityU and its students. It will benefit outstanding students who have financial needs and provide them with enormous learning opportunities.

Venerable Ti Lun commended CityU's rapid developments and achievements in international rankings. He said that a university education was an important stage in building one’s character and that the quality of the education at CityU could energise young people and contribute to society by nurturing talented students who uphold integrity. 

Guests attending the ceremony included Venerable Ti Lun, representatives from HKHY including Venerable Wei Yi and Ms Lo Wai-yin; Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations) at CityU, Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Development and Alumni Relations) at CityU and Mr Gavin Kwok Man-kit, Director (Development Office) at CityU.

Founded by Venerable Ti Lun in 2009, HKHY actively contributes to charity work and serves the community. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the founding of HKHY and the 40th anniversary of Venerable Ti Lun’s “l(fā)eaving home day”, a spiritually significant milestone in Buddhism.

Coinciding with the occasion, HKHY has made a donation in support of setting up an endowment fund at CityU to recognise students’ outstanding achievements and moral qualities. Students with financial needs will be given priority.
