CityU wins “family-friendly” awards

? Family-friendly employment policies and practices for all employees have earned City University of Hong Kong (CityU) three awards in the 2015/16 Family-Friendly Employers Award Scheme.

The scheme, which is jointly organised by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Family Council, acknowledges employers who demonstrate a family-friendly spirit and encourage related policies and practices.

CityU received the Distinguished Family-Friendly Employers Award, the Family-Friendly Employers Award, and the Award for Breastfeeding Support.

The award for Distinguished Family-Friendly Employers goes to organisations that successfully implement family-friendly employment policies and practices and promote core family values.

All the awards show CityU’s commitment to promoting a healthy and productive campus with a sound work-life balance and family-friendly policies.

The rationale for, and commitment to, family-friendly employment policies is embedded in our Strategic Plans and embodied in our attractive work conditions, fringe benefits and facilities, and a supportive and friendly workplace.

Mr Sunny Lee Wai-kwong, Vice -President (Administration), said that the awards reflected CityU’s efforts to promote core family values.

“Human capital is a valuable asset for achieving the University’s vision and mission,” Mr Lee said.

He added that strategies had been developed and implemented specifically to engage staff and balance work life with leisure time.

For example, the Staff Social Club, a well-being programme launched in September 2015 with the support of the University, organises regular social and recreational activities such as interest classes, health talks and outings, all of which are aimed at enhancing work-life balance and nurturing a sense of belonging.

In addition, a breastfeeding facility recently established on campus allows mums to continue breastfeeding after maternity leave.

“Family-friendly employment policies and practices are a win-win for employers and employees. The University strives to foster a pro-family culture and environment on campus,” said Mr Lee.
