In his welcoming address, Professor Way Kuo, University President, encouraged the newcomers to equip themselves well for the next four years at CityU and to be prepared to challenge themselves.

“Also take this opportunity to make friends. Friends met at college are the best ones you can have and ones you will never forget,” he advised.

The President made special reference to the University’s expanding exchange programmes for students too.

“These programmes have seen a lot of growth in recent years. Almost half of our students spend at least one semester abroad during their studies at CityU, and we have a new objective to raise the ratio to 65%. You will have a lot of opportunities to go abroad,” he said.

In his address, Professor Arthur Ellis, Provost, introduced our unique Discovery-enriched Curriculum, the Gateway Education courses, and CityU’s top-notch learning facilities and platforms, including the Apps Lab and the Innovation Commons.

Chu Kwok-chi, President of the Students’ Union, led the new students in pledging to live their student lives at CityU to the fullest and to do their best at all times. They also vowed to broaden their horizons and seek new knowledge.

Student representatives from the Colleges and Schools talked about their learning experiences at CityU and encourage new students to grasp every opportunity in the coming years to learn as much as they could.

Postgraduate students are also being welcomed to their new place of learning. The Taught Postgraduate Student Orientation took place on 29 August while the one for research degree students will be held on 14 September. Both orientations are organised by the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies.
