A video and film competition at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) that was aimed at boosting innovative and creative thinking among secondary school students met with an overwhelming response. 

The D.I.Y. (Discover and Innovate You) “Dream Life 28” Video Image Competition received over 200 entries from F4 to F7 students at more than 60 local schools. 

 

A prize presentation ceremony on 16 June was attended by Professor Arthur Ellis, CityU Provost; Mr Alex Tham Koy-siong, Senior Coordinator (Admissions), Office of the Provost; Mr Lo Chun-yip, young director, actor and CityU alumnus; Mr Law Ho-kwong, Artistic Director of the "Arts Bus: On the Move!" project and renowned designer; and Ms Toby Wong Yin-ying, renowned photographer. 

The students’ entries covered issues affecting society, old Hong Kong, traditional culture, environment protection, expectations for the future, and personal goals. 

The categories were environment and resources; technology and engineering; creative media; social culture; legal system and politics; and business and economics. 

Some of the works were displayed in the foyer of CityU’s Wei Hing Theatre from 16–23 June. 

 

Ms Heiward Mak Hei-yan, renowned film director; Mr Lo Chun-yip; Mr Kwok King-chi, Content Editor of youth.gov.hk; plus Mr Chan Tsz-kin, Producer (video) of youth.gov.hk, shared their experience of creating videos and images with participants at a workshop in February.
