The heads of the libraries at the local higher education institutions experienced the beauty of Chinese calligraphy at a workshop organised by the library at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 12 December.

Altogether eight institutions funded by the University Grants Committee sent their University librarians or representatives to the workshop.

The attendees, an international group from Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, UK and US, had gained previous experience composing Chinese characters at an earlier workshop. At this latest gathering, the librarians studied the artwork of a calligrapher from the Sung Dynasty.

The CityU library also provided participants with a range of written and graphic resources to help them discover the spirit of Chinese calligraphy.

CityU encourages local and overseas students to study the aesthetic aspects of Chinese calligraphy through out-of-classroom activities organised by its library, thereby sharing important aspects of Chinese culture with the rest of the world.
