Dr Cao Jianlin, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, led a delegation visiting City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 4 March. They visited the State Key Laboratory of Millimetre Waves, State Key Laboratory in Marine Pollution and the Optoelectronics Laboratory, and had lunch with CityU representatives.

Dr Cao commended the University for the research work of its laboratories, and acclaimed CityU for its excellent performance in scientific research and applicable knowledge creation. He also invited CityU to submit proposals to the Ministry to discuss future cooperation.

The visiting delegation included members of the Ministry of Science and Technology as well as Mr Cao Guoying, Associate Counsel of Education, Science and Technology Department, Liaison office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR, and Ms Eliza Lam Ip-fong, Senior Manager (Policy and Development), Innovation and Technology Commission of Hong Kong Government. CityU representatives receiving the delegation included Professor Way Kuo, University President, Professor Chan Chi-hou, Acting Provost, Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Vice-President (Student Affairs), Professor Edwin Pun Yue-bun, Acting Dean of the College of Science and Engineering, Dr Xue Quan, Associate Professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Ms Helen Ng Kit-yee, Chief Technical Officer of the Department of Biology and Chemistry, and Ms Candy Chouk Yin of the Mainland and External Affairs Office.

Professor Kuo said in his opening remarks that CityU has very close ties with the mainland, and briefly introduced some of the key projects concerned. Dr Cao praised CityU’s commitment to contributing to society through the advancement of technology, and said, “Our country needs research talents who aren’t afraid of the hard core.”
