This award highlights CityU’s achievements in teaching and applied research, and demonstrates that the University’s research findings enjoy worldwide recognition.

ICIT drew more than 300 submissions this year from over 35 countries. Mr Chan’s paper, entitled “Multi-objective Optimization of Radio-to-fiber Repeater Placement Using a Jumping Gene Algorithm”, was selected as the Best Paper by a panel of five world-renowned professors from the US, Portugal and Hong Kong.

This award-winning paper was co-authored by Professor K F Man and Dr K S Tang, both from EE, and Dr Sam Kwong from the Department of Computer Science. The paper outlines a genetic algorithm that helps optimize the telecommunication network. 

Mr Chan said he felt honoured when he heard the news. He thanked his supervisor, Professor Man, for his inspiring teaching. “I learnt a lot during the whole process,” Mr Chan said.

ICIT was held at CityU this year, from 14 to 17 December. The conference provides a forum for presenting and discussing emerging technology in industrial electronics and serves as a conduit for conveying advanced technology to crucial areas such as industrial informatics, computer and control systems, power electronics, sensors and actuators, and mechatronics in the Asia-Pacific region.
