"More confident and with better interpersonal skills..." is how Year 2 Chinese, Translation and Linguistics student Roanne Law expects to be after participating in the 2004 Student Leadership Conference (SLC). Such anticipated changes are not exclusive to Roanne, all participants expect the SLC to make a difference in their lives.

The 2004 SLC on the theme "Achieving Equilibrium: Asia in the Process of Globalization" will take place 6-12 June at CityU. It aims to foster a new generation of ethical and responsible leaders in the Asia-Pacific region, with insight and vision for the future development of the world. Through project presentations, forums and workshops with simulation games, participants will explore topics related to global trends and cultures in Asia, and further expand their ideas on becoming a successful leader.

 

 

In addition to meeting students from local and the mainland universities, participants this year will have a chance to share the leadership experience with students from about 40 top universities in the Asia-Pacific region. "This is a valuable opportunity to learn about how people from different cultures apply leadership skills," said Roanne who is the Chairperson of the Student Organizing Committee.

 

 

"As we strongly believe that student leadership skills can only be acquired through real life experience, we passed the rudder to a 21-member student organizing committee," said Mr Theseus Leung, Senior Counsellor in Student Development Services (SDS), who acts as a supporting coordinator.

The SLC is the largest leadership conference in Hong Kong. "As CityU students, we want to show our support, especially when this is a CityU 20th anniversary celebration activity fully run by and for CityU students," Roanne said.
