CityU has signed a student exchange agreement with Canada's renowned University of Western Ontario.
"International experience of some kind is becoming critical to an undergraduate education," said University of Western Ontario's
Greg Moran at the signing ceremony. Professor Moran, the university's Provost & Vice-President (Academic), added: "Europe and parts of Asia have known this for a long time. We in Canada have to have more opportunities for our students to study in different cultures in fine universities."
The signing ceremony, on 16 September at CityU, was presided over by President H K Chang and Professor Moran. The two universities will exchange three year-long or six semester-long students each year. Undergraduate students from compatible disciplines among arts, humanities, social sciences, science and engineering may apply. "CityU should be a university of technology with a soul," said Professor Chang. "The arts and humanities will enrich our students, and they will play a role that is essential for Hong Kong's future."

Ms Sara Steers, Associate Director of the Department of Alumni Relations and Development, and
Ms Margaret Yung, Alumni Relations Associate of the Department of Alumni Relations and Development, the Hong Kong Office.
Besides Professor Chang, the CityU delegation at the ceremony included
Professor Y S Wong, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement,
Professor Roderick Wong, Dean of the
Faculty of Science and Engineering,
Dr Jonathan Webster, Acting Dean of
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences,
Mrs Diana Ying, Associate Vice-President for Institutional Advancement and Director of
Academic Exchange Office, and
Ms Helen Lam, Executive Officer in the Academic Exchange Office.
Following the ceremony, the delegation visited CityU's Chinese Civilisation Centre and the School of Creative Media.
In the year 2002-2003, CityU has signed student exchange agreements with 39 institutions both at the institution and departmental level. A total of 142 places have been offered.
