For the fifth straight year, CityU has provided support to secondary school teachers through its Teachers Update Course (TUC), which helped more than 1,100 teachers from 350 local schools stay abreast of the latest developments in content knowledge and pedagogy.

The course, held on 25-28 June, was provided free to secondary school teachers. It covered a range of subjects, including Biology, Chemistry, Chinese Language and Culture, Computer Studies, Economics, English Language Teaching, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, Principles of Accounts, Student Counselling, Teaching Enhancement and Web Teaching. A new element in this year's TUC -- problem-based learning workshops -- was well received.

The TUC was launched in 1998 by the Offices of Institutional Advancement, with an eye to providing practical assistance to local secondary school teachers by offering up-to-date knowledge in selected subject areas.

At the workshops, University staff shared with participants their experience in using real-world problems and information technology to stimulate student learning. Teachers said they benefited greatly from the training sessions and thanked CityU staff for their work.

"TUC is closely related to my teaching work. It's very useful. I hope CityU will keep organizing it in the future," said the participants.
