CityU's Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering Management (MEEM) has signed a multi-million dollar agreement with Dassault Systemes and MTECH Engineering Co Ltd that will help boost innovation, productivity and competitiveness in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Pearl River Delta region.

At a campus inauguration ceremony on 17 September, top officials from CityU, Dassault, and MTECH announced the establishment of the Product Lifecycle Management Competency Unit (PLMCU), which will work under the Enterprise Knowledge Integration and Transfer Laboratory (e-KIT) of MEEM. The PLMCU is expected to revolutionize product development for SMEs in Hong Kong and on the mainland as well.

 

 

"We should not overlook our ability to play a specific role in complementing the production facilities of technology-oriented businesses on the mainland," said Mr Peter Lo Yat-fai, Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, in his keynote speech at the ceremony. "CityU has excelled admirably in this role, helping industry commercialize technology."

 

 

Through MTECH and Dassault Systems, MEEM will receive a significant injection of software, valued at tens of millions dollars, to help kick-start the product lifecycle programme. Product lifecycle technology helps business by ensuring that everyone involved in product development, manufacturing, and service have ready access to necessary information.

 

 

The PLMCU will facilitate the transfer of knowledge and skills to local enterprises.
