The Named Chair Professorship Scheme of CityUHK is part of our commitment to excellence in research and professional education for the benefit of society. The Scheme seeks to attract world-class scholars to advance research and professional education at the University.

Named Chair Professorships represent the highest honour that a university can bestow upon her academic. It is also a lasting tribute to the donor who establishes the endowment or financially supports the Scheme. The donor’s name is henceforth prominently associated with the Named Professorship holder.

CityUHK has established one Research Institute, 20 Research Centres, and eight Applied Strategic Development Centres in strategically important fields to focus on and foster interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research. We have also obtained the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China to establish two State Key Laboratories and one Chinese National Engineering Research Center. Your valued support to fund research will enable our researchers to make new discoveries and have an impact on all of society, improving the lives of the next generation. Your gift will provide funding for our researchers to identify possible solutions for emerging and/or existing global and environmental challenges. It will also attract outstanding international scholars to participate in new research areas and set up new research centres.

Established on 22 November 2015, CityUHK’s Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) is one of the few Research Institutes in the region. We envision developing this into an international centre of excellence for the advancement of technology and innovation by bringing together an interdisciplinary team of world-renowned scholars and researchers, including Nobel laureates and world-class academicians, to find solutions to pressing real-world problems. The IAS is the perfect platform for spearheading the University’s drive for excellence in interdisciplinary research for the benefit of society. Your funding will enable the IAS to appoint internationally recognized scholars and researchers as Senior Fellows, who will work with and mentor other research fellows and students in the problem areas of their choice. Your gift will also empower the IAS to organize intellectual and scholarly activities in the fields of science, engineering and technology.
