An exciting five-year scholarship programme launched by City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) in partnership with Lucy Cavendish College at the University of Cambridge is the first of its kind for universities in Hong Kong.

The CityUHK-Lucy Cavendish College Scholarships aim to attract the brightest masters degree students from CityUHK and worldwide to study at the University of Cambridge.

The collaboration also includes CityUHK becoming the first international partner of the Future Global Leaders Programme launched by Lucy Cavendish College. This programme equips students with the knowledge of sustainability and leadership skill needed to address pressing global issues.

The scholarships will support up to 20 students annually with funding worth HK$10 million (GBP 1 million). Each student will receive a full scholarship to study for a one-year, full-time master programme at the University of Cambridge.

Students must select Lucy Cavendish College as their first-choice college when applying to the University of Cambridge and the application deadline is 30 April 2025.

President Boey

Professor Freddy Boey, CityUHK President, said CityUHK’s commitment to fostering inspirational, interactive and innovative education aligns seamlessly with the collaborative learning approach driven by Lucy Cavendish College.

“The approach advocated by Lucy Cavendish College facilitates cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary discussions, which are essential for addressing many of the world’s pressing challenges, matching CityUHK’ s dedication to enhancing students’ global exposure,” he said.

In keeping with CityUHK’s reputation as the world’s Most International University as recognised by Times Higher Educations in 2024, and as one of the top five young universities in the world, newly forged global partnerships such as the Cambridge connection are opening up excellent learning and research opportunities, Professor Boey added.

“CityUHK emphasises fulfilling global social responsibility. Under the new scheme, in addition to academic merit, priority will be given to students from underrepresented groups and students who may have faced educational or socio-economic disadvantages,” he said.

“Lucy Cavendish College provides an intellectually stimulating atmosphere that encourages critical thinking and innovative problem-solving skills necessary to make a positive social impact, contributing meaningfully to society and addressing the complex challenges of our time,” she said.

“We believe the immersive experience will allow students to cultivate a global perspective, not only enhancing their academic understanding but also building essential skills for navigating the complexities of a rapidly changing world,” she added.

CityUHK is committed to fostering greater academic and research collaboration with influential universities worldwide. It draws students from over 80 countries or regions worldwide and partners with over 400 exchange programmes in 44 countries or regions.

Lucy Cavendish College, one of the largest constituent colleges of the University of Cambridge, is renowned for its innovation and vibrant student community, which includes individuals from over 80 countries. The College aims to open the doors to exceptional students with leadership potential and an enterprising mindset, particularly those from disadvantaged or under-represented backgrounds.
