Outcomes Based Teaching and Learning
The University will be running a series of workshops and sharing sessions over the next few weeks as part of the third phase of the Outcomes Based Teaching and Learning (OBTL) project. The series began with a plenary address by Professor John Biggs, an expert in constructive alignment and the principal consultant on the OBTL project, entitled "Designing teaching and learning activities and assessment to align with course intended learning outcomes," to more than 220 CityU colleagues on 11 January. The workshops, running from 16 January to 2 March, aim to support colleagues as they revisit the aims, objectives and intended learning outcomes of the University's educational programmes.

OBTL is a key project for the University, one that builds upon positive comments in the last two Teaching and Learning Quality Process Reviews in which the University Grants Committee commended CityU for its exemplary Quality Assurance structure. The first phase of OBTL, which began in September 2005, focused on defining what is meant by OBTL, and the aim of the second phase was to review intended learning outcomes for all programmes and courses.
