Honorary Fellows
CityU will confer the title of Honorary Fellow on Mr Rex Auyeung Pak-kuen, Ms Maggie Chan Man-ki, MH, Mr David Fong Man-hung, BBS, JP, Mr Francis Ngai Wah-sing, and Mr Wong Kai-man, BBS, JP, in recognition of their significant contributions to the development of, and service to, the University. The Honorary Fellow Presentation Ceremony will be held on 16 September.

 

Re-appointment of Council member
Dr Law Hing-chung has been re-appointed as a member of the University Council for a term of three years with effect from 1 June 2013. He has extensive experience in school education. He was the Chairman of the Hong Kong Direct Subsidy Scheme Schools Council and is at present Vice-Chairman of Hong Kong Senior Education Workers Association.

 

Technology Transfer Forum
The CityU Technology Transfer Forum, titled “From Innovation to Realisation”, will present the University’s research results to industry and the general public for the benefit of society. The forum will feature presentations by Professor Cheng Shuk Han of the Department of Biology and Chemistry. She will talk about the development of a rapid-identification kit for meat ingredients in processed food, and Dr Tsang Kim-fung, Associate Professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering, will talk about the ZigBee health and sustainable technologies for next home and building automation. Additionally, Dr Jonathan Chung Chi-yuen, Associate Professor of the Department of Physics and Materials Science, will present the superelastic knee support with a flexible hinge; and Dr Lawrence Li Kwok-yan, Associate Professor of the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering, will talk about the improvement of productivity and reliability of cutting tools through the combination of preparation and surface coating. The forum will take place on 14 June in the Connie Fan Multi-media Conference Room.

 

CSE Student Project Exhibition
Over 80 student projects from the College of Science and Engineering will be showcased in an exhibition on campus on 5–8 June in which visitors will have the opportunity to appreciate their innovative work and achievements. The vitality and enthusiasm of the students will be illustrated to the visitors through project posters and product demonstration.

 

Summer festival for creative media
A number of events, seminars, screenings, exhibitions and performances are taking place as part of the Summer Festival at the Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre (CMC) through to 22 June. The aim of the festival is to continue CityU’s trajectory of excellence in creative media work, and further promote the CMC as a creative nexus for Hong Kong.

 

Retirement party
Nearly thirty members of staff will be honoured at the Farewell Party for Retirees for 2013 on 11 June at a reception organised by the Human Resources Office.

 

Kudos
Three members of the School of Creative Media have won Hong Kong Arts Development Awards. Dr Samson Young Kar-fai, Assistant Professor, received the Award for Best Artist (Media Arts); Mr Choi Sai-ho, an alumnus and part-time lecturer, was honoured with the Award for Young Artist (Media Arts); and Mr Lo Chun-yip, an alumnus, won the Award for Young Artist (Film).
