Kudos
An article by Dr Antonio Ruotolo of the Department of Physics and Materials Science and nine other collaborators from Belgium and France has been accepted for publication in Nature Physics, the world's no.1 journal for pure and applied research in all areas of physics. The title of the article is "Commensurability and chaos in magnetic vortex oscillations". Dr Ruotolo and his collaborators have engineered tunable nanoscale radiofrequency electrical oscillators that can be driven in commensurate phase-locked and incommensurate chaotic states by changing the driving current, resulting in Devil's staircases. This system provides a novel testbed for probing strong nonlinear dynamics on the nanoscale.

Dr Gabriel Wu Yeow-chong, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics, was invited to attend "Approaches to Reading Fiction: The 2nd International Forum on Contemporary Chinese Literature" jointly organised by Harvard University and Remin University from 9–10 July at Renmin University as a representative expert in the field. The discussions at the two-day forum focused on ways of approaching Chinese fiction.

Mok Ho-leung, a student from the Department of Computer Science (CS), has won the Gold Award in the 2012 Amway Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Universities IT Project Competition. His project titled "Mobile Live Broadcasting Application" beat over 500 entries from 277 universities in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.
