Economics and Finance 
The Department of Economics and Finance will co-host The 2009 APJAE Symposium on Trade, Environment and Resources with the National Taiwan University from 18 to 20 May. It is also a co-organiser of the CityU-CUHK Joint Symposium on Institutions, Finance and Economic Development from 24 to 25 May. The first symposium features renowned scholars and business leaders from Canada, Japan, Italy, Taiwan, mainland China, UK, Australia, France, the US and Hong Kong. For the second symposium, topics including law, finance, Chinese development, politics and economy and the evolution of legal system and institutions will be covered.

 

Art exhibition 
The Chinese Civilisation Centre has organised the exhibition “Intertwined – The Art of Gao Made and Chen Ruqin” at the CityU Gallery, running from 15 May to 5 July. More than 60 exhibits are on display. Ms Chen Ruqin, Ms Belinda Wong Sau-lan, Chief Curator of Hong Kong Heritage Museum and Professor Cheng Pei-kai, Director of Chinese Civilisation Centre, officiated at the opening ceremony on 14 May.

 

CSE Student Project Exhibition 
Student projects from the College of Science and Engineering will be on display during a two-day exhibition on campus from 21 to 22 May, showcasing students’ creativity and applied technology skills. The exhibition will be opened from 2pm to 6pm at the Multi-purpose Rooms, featuring displays of project posters and product demonstrations. 

 

Historic recognition 
Mr David Santandreu Calonge
, Senior Education Development Officer of the Education Development Office, has earned Teacher of Honour status from the Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honour Society in Education. Selected this year along with only three other US teachers, he became the first ever international recipient of this prestigious award since its establishment.

 

Age no barrier 
Fifty diligent elderly students received certificates at a ceremony on 19 May after completing their Elder Academy courses this semester. Aged from 60 to 73, the students studied alongside CityU undergraduates, taking courses in Chinese language and culture, creativity and problem solving, and Putonghua.
