Forum on Clean Energy and Nuclear Safety – 10 Years after Fukushima
Achieving net-zero carbon emission goals by 2050 as a means of avoiding catastrophic climate change strongly depends on targeted R&D and technological innovations. Co-hosted by City Univeristy of Hong Kong, National Tsing Hua University, Seoul National University and the Tokyo Institute of Technology, the online “Forum on Clean Energy and Nuclear Safety – 10 Years after Fukushima” brings together world experts on 10 March to discuss recent advances in low-carbon energy technology and nuclear safety, as well as to reflect on the Fukushima crisis that occurred ten years ago, in March 2011. President’s Lecture Series
High dimensional and big data relate to every science discipline and every facet of life, while data science tools allow users to extract important features for deciphering information and events behind big data. In this lecture, part of the President’s Lecture Series: Excellence in Academia, Professor Joe Qin Sizhao, Chair Professor and Dean of the School of Data Science, and Director of the Hong Kong Institute for Data Science, will introduce fascinating tools from the field of data science. HKIAS Distinguished Lecture Series on Chemistry
There will be two talks this month as part of the HKIAS Distinguished Lecture Series on Chemistry. The first, to be held on 3 March, is titled “Printable Solar Cells for Transformative Clean Energy and Sustainable Society” by Professor Alex Jen Kwan-yue, Lee Shau-Kee Chair Professor of Materials Science and Chair Professor of Chemistry and Materials Science. The second lecture, to be held on 31 March, is titled “Phase Engineering of Nanomaterials (PEN)” and will be given by Professor Zhang Hua, Herman Hu Professor of Nanomaterials. Dialogue Series with Consuls General: Australia
Opportunities for future studies and career development in Australia are the topic of a talk by Ms Elizabeth Ward, Australian Consul-General to Hong Kong and Macau, as part of the Dialogue Series with Consuls General. Zheng Shaomian, studying for the MSc in Multimedia Information Technology in the Department of Electrical Engineering, won First Prize in the 8th CCF Big Data & Computing Intelligence Contest in collaboration with a partner from industry in mainland China on the project "Private Information Extraction Model based on Multi-stage Fine-tuning and Pre-training". The contest, launched by the China Computer Federation in 2013, promotes the development of big data and computing intelligence.
The following CityU buildings have been awarded “Good Class” certificates in the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Certification Scheme for Offices and Public Places: Yeung Kin Man Academic Building; Lau Ming Wai Academic Building (whole building); Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre (whole building); Cheng Yick-chi Building; Administration Building; Mong Man-wai Building; and Fong Yun-wah Building. The IAQ scheme, launched by the Environmental Protection Department of the HKSAR Government, promotes good IAQ management practices.
