CityU Distinguished Lecture

Most artificial visual systems consist of cameras and computers, like the eyes and brain of a human; but the linkage model between the two parts is usually weak. In this talk, Professor Gao Wen, a Boya Chair Professor at Peking University, will discuss how we can improve the linkage model to make an artificial vision system smarter. Professor Gao received his PhD degree in electronic engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1991. His research focuses on multimedia and computer vision, i.e. video coding, video analysis, multimedia retrieval, face recognition, multimodal interfaces and virtual reality. The talk will take place on 27 December. For more information, click here.

CityU Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Charging Trial 2018

In a bid to maintain a more sustainable campus environment, CityU is involved in a scheme to encourage less waste. The CityU MSW Charging Trial 2018 is based on the charging methods proposed by the Environmental Protection Department of the HKSAR Government. This is a “Pay as You Throw” concept and on volume basis. The MSW generated on campus will be collected and counted using different-sized trash bags, and the data will be used to estimate the total cost that CityU will pay under the proposed charging scheme. The findings from the trial will help in the planning of strategies for the charging scheme when it comes into force.
