Remote-controllable all-liquid robotics for the tumor-targeting drug delivery and release

Cancer is a leading cause of mortality for people of all ages around the world. In 2020, more than 19 million new malignancy cases were found, and approximately 10 million cancer deaths were reported. Phototherapy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy have shown excellent prospects in clinical cancer treatment. However, the complicated biological environment of tumours makes it difficult to realize precise cancer therapeutics.

Recently, targeted drug delivery and release by materials-designing-based robots are emerging as revolutionary options for cancer therapy. This project will focus on developing all-liquid soft robotics with multi-fold responsiveness for precise tumour location and targeted drug delivery and release. The all-liquid soft robotics, based on ferrofluids, can access the complicated confinement close to tumour, which is essential for sensitizing tumours to therapies and amplifying anti-tumour responses.

Our long-term goal is to develop a series of biocompatible soft robotics for practical applications in targeted drug delivery and release for tumor therapy.
