SEE Undergraduate Student won the First Runner-up in the HK Electric “Green Energy Dreams Come True 2023/24 (Tertiary Institutes) Competition”

Under the supervision of Prof. Edwin Tso, an undergraduate student at the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), Miss Lau Cheuk Ying Kathy, won the first runner-up in the “Green Energy Dreams Come True” Competition organized by HK Electric. The competition took place at the Central market on 6 July 2024, with the aim to acknowledge students who demonstrate excellence in the fields of green energy, carbon reduction, sustainability and innovation.

Kathy’s project, titled “Thermo-responsive Window with Electricity Generation”, focuses on the integration of hydrogel thermochromic smart windows and photovoltaic cells, utilizing a cutting-edge technology known as luminescent solar concentrator. By combining these elements, she aims to develop hydrogel thermochromic smart windows capable of generating electricity. The primary objective of her research is to enhance the energy-saving efficiency of thermochromic smart windows and contribute to the overall reduction of energy consumption in buildings.
