Prof. Wei WU Received the Distinguished Young Scholar Award at the 4th China Metamaterials Conference

The 4th China Metamaterials Conference (CMMC 2025) was successfully held in Shenzhen from 15 to 18 May 2025. The China Metamaterials Conference aims to promote fundamental research, design and manufacturing research, and device application research. It is a prominent event that bridges academia and industry to enhance academic communications, technical exchanges, and technology promotion.

Prof. Wei WU of the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) was invited to give a talk on zero-energy thermal management technologies for new energy and smart devices. During the conference, Prof. WU was awarded the Distinguished Young Scholar Award.

This prestigious award recognizes outstanding early to mid-career researchers who have made significant and impactful contributions to the field of metamaterials. Prof. WU was honored for his excellent research in zero-energy thermal/humidity control technologies based on hygroscopic/porous/sorption/hydrogel materials and devices. The proposed bio-inspired moisture-driven passive cooling provides promising electricity-free thermal management for New Energy (PV, battery, H2, fuel cell, etc.)  and Smart Devices (GPT, 5G, chip, GPU, LED, EV, drone, robot, etc.).

Prof. WU’s research is focused on building energy and sustainability technologies (BEST), including advanced heat pumps, novel working fluids, thermal energy storage, advanced thermal management, renewable energy utilization, net-zero energy buildings, etc. He establishes a significant global impact by addressing societal needs towards a healthy built environment, energy efficiency, carbon neutrality, smart future, as well as sustainable development.
