Institutional collaboration advances IT system for 4-year curriculum

by Ellen Chan

Administrators of three local tertiary educational institutions shared their technical experience at a forum to discuss crucial technology enhancements to support the new 4-year curriculum.

At the forum “Academic Advising Delivery System Models,” held on 18 May 2011, the keynote speaker was Professor Jayne Drake, the immediate past president of the National Academic Advising Association and Vice Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Liberal Arts, Temple University. It was part of an instructional collaboration project, known as “Project 4Y,” in which City University of Hong Kong (CityU), the Hong Kong Institute of Education and Lingnan University are the member institutions.

With support from the Restructuring and Collaboration Fund of the University Grants Committee, the project aims to update the student information system platform shared by the three institutions for meeting the needs of the new curriculum.

Dr Andy Chun Hon-wai, Chairman of Project 4Y Steering Group and Chief Information Officer of CityU, said the collaboration is yielding enhanced and fruitful results. “Project 4Y has organised several forums related to technological support for the 334 academic reforms being implemented by member institutions and other local institutes in Hong Kong and is facilitating sharing of valuable experience in making crucial technological enhancements critical for supporting the 3-3-4 reforms,” said Dr Chun.
