Prof. Will Yung-Kang Peng (彭詠康) obtained his B.Sc. (2009) and M.Sc. (2011) in Chemistry from National Chung Cheng University and National Taiwan University. After a year of military service and research assistant (NTU), he started a PhD in 2013 at Wolfson Catalysis Centre of Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory at University of Oxford (UK) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. S. C. Edman Tsang, for which he received a Clarendon scholarship from University of Oxford (top 3% graduate of 2013 cohort). He completed his PhD in 2017 and continued in the same group as a postdoctoral researcher. In May 2018, he joined the City University of Hong Kong as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in July 2024.

His current research focuses on understanding nanomaterial surface chemistry to design hetero(photo)catalysts and MRI contrast agents.

Hetero(photo)catalysts:
Probe-assisted NMR is utilized as a primary surface analysis tool to probe catalyst surfaces, facilitating the correlation of activity and the understanding of catalytic mechanisms in hetero(photo)catalysis. For more information in this area, please refer to our previous review article: “Facet-dependent Photocatalysis of Nanosize Semiconductive Metal Oxides and Progress of their Characterization,” Nano Today 18, 15?34 (2018).

MRI nanocontrast Agents:
We focus on the design of multifunctional T1- and T2-weighted, as well as dual-modal, MRI nanocontrast agents for in-vivo and in-vitro biomedical applications. For further details, please see our previous review article: “Chemical Design of Nanoprobes for T1-weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging,” Materials Today 19, 336?348 (2016).
