Chi K. Michael Tse graduated from the University of Melbourne. He has held a Chair Professorship since 2005, and is currently a Chair Professor of Electrical Engineering at City University of Hong Kong. He is/was honorary professor and distinguished fellow with several Australian, Canadian and Chinese universities, including Melbourne University, RMIT University, University of Western Australia, University of Calgary, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (being Chang Jiang Scholars Chair), Northeastern University, etc. His research interests are in power electronics and nonlinear systems.

He has been awarded numerous invention, research and teaching prizes. Among them, the IEEE CASS Charles A. Desoer Technical Achievement Award 2022 recognized his "outstanding contributions and continued leadership in the development of research in complex behavior of power electronics and energy systems". He was listed in the top 2% of the World's Most Cited Scientists by a recent Stanford study released in September 2024, and was ranked 28th worldwide for his career-long impact in the subfield of electrical and electronic engineering (total of 119,204 scientists in this subfield).

Since 2023, he made a series of pledges to establish scholarships for undergraduate students:
- Professor Chi K. Tse Prize in Electrical Engineering (The Univ. of Melbourne)
- Chi K. Tse Scholarship (for students in disadvantaged circumstances, The Univ. of Melbourne)
- Chi K. Tse Scholarship in Electrical Engineering Fundamentals (HK Univ. of Sci. & Tech.)
- Chi K. Tse Prize in Electrical Engineering Fundamentals (City Univ. of HK)
- Chi K. Tse Scholarship in Diversity and Inclusion (HK Polytechnic Univ.)
and more to be established in local and Australian universities.

In April 2025, partnering with a Hong Kong painter, he staged a duo exhibition in Art Shopping Paris 2025 at Carrousel du Lourve, Paris.

BREAKING! Negative Inductance Synthesizer: A Game Changing Device
Standalone negative reactance, a previously absent concept in the real world, has been developed and tested in our lab. This revolutionary device allows direct cancellation of real inductance in electrical power applications, and would change the way reactive compensation has been done in the past century.

  • Negative Inductance Synthesizer: A Game Changing Device
    Standalone negative reactance, a previously absent concept in the real world, has been developed and tested in our lab. While negative power inductance has been indirectly created by embedding it within a positive inductance, this new development allows for direct cancellation of real inductance in power applications. Existing complicated compensation design methods will be revolutionized by this new device.
