Dongguan Delegation Visits CityUHK to Deepen Education and I&T Co-operation

A delegation from Dongguan visited City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) on 20 March to meet with senior management of CityUHK. The two parties engaged in in-depth discussions on various topics, including the integration of technological and industrial innovation and the transformation of technology, and explored opportunities for further cooperation.
The delegation was led by Mr Lyu Chengxi, Mayor of the Dongguan Municipal Government. Members included Deputy Mayor Ms Li Jun and Secretary Mr Yan Jizong of the Dongguan Municipal Government.
Representatives of CityUHK attending the meeting were Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor; Professor Lu Chun, Vice-President (Mainland Strategy) and Executive President of CityUHK (Dongguan); Professor Julie Li, Associate Vice-President (Mainland Strategy); Professor Wang Jianping, Dean of the College of Computing; and Professor Goh Chin Foo, Director of the Knowledge Transfer Office.
President Boey extended a warm welcome to the delegation, emphasising strong synergy between CityUHK and Dongguan in education and innovation and technology development. He said that the opening of CityUHK (Dongguan) last year marked a significant milestone in cooperation between Dongguan and Hong Kong, reflecting the results of their joint efforts in promoting higher-education cooperation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
He expressed his hope that through further deepening their collaboration, CityUHK could fully leverage its strengths in artificial intelligence (AI), scientific research and innovation, and internationalisation, combined with Dongguan's robust industrial foundation, to jointly drive technological advancement and economic growth in the region.
Professor Lu briefed the delegation on the latest developments at the University and CityUHK's remarkable academic and research achievements, including the prestigious honour of being named the “Most International University in the World 2025” by Times Higher Education. Professor Lu also provided a detailed update on the progress of various projects at CityUHK (Dongguan).
The two parties explored cooperation opportunities in various areas, including jointly developing an AI industry-academia-research cooperation platform, promoting the implementation of innovation projects, establishing a mechanism for matching incubation results, and building a cooperative training mechanism.
