We are delighted to announce that Professor Yu Huang, Jeanie Hu Professor of Biomedical Sciences at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, has been honoured with the Peter Harris Distinguished Scientist Award by the International Heart Research Society (ISHR). Professor Huang is the first Chinese recipient of this esteemed award, which recognises his lifetime achievements and contributions to major discoveries in cardiovascular science.

The award ceremony took place on 12 April 2024 during the 20th Annual Conference of the Chinese Society of Pathophysiology Cardiovascular Committee and the 17th Annual Conference of the International Heart Research Society Chinese Division, held in Wuxi, China. Established in 1986, The Peter Harris Distinguished Scientist Award by ISHR aims to recognise senior scholars who have made outstanding contributions to cardiovascular research throughout their careers.

Professor Huang’s research focuses on investigating the cellular and molecular processes involved in the onset and progression of vascular endothelial cell dysfunction in hypertension, diabetes, and atherosclerosis. His work has led to the discovery of novel biomarkers for vascular pathogenesis and the development of methods to reverse vascular dysfunction in animal models of cardio-metabolic disorders.

The prestigious award is named in honour of the influential international statesman in cardiology, Dr Peter Harris (1923-2002). It is a testament to Professor Huang’s exceptional commitment and outstanding contributions to cardiovascular research.
